LEFT-HANDED PEWTER BELT BUCKLES

What makes it Left-Handed?

With the front belt buckle facing away from you, the belt will snap to the buckle on the right side. The belt wraps around your body clockwise and meets up with the buckle on its left side, where you insert the peg into the belt hole.
You will need a belt with a snap, so the belt can be removed from the buckle.
This buckle can accommodate a belt width of 1 3/4 inches.

WHAT IS PEWTER?

Pewter, an alloy composed mostly of tin, has been used for thousands of years. In Colonial days when tin was scarce, lead was often added to the mix to extend the Pewter. Today, fine Pewter must contain at least 90% tin and no lead.
The formula used for these left-handed belt buckles contains 92% tin, 7% antimony and 1% copper. This mix produces a Buckle of excellent quality.

THE CARE OF FINE PEWTER BUCKLES

You may keep your fine Pewter Buckle light in color and with its original luster by polishing occasionally with fine steel wool (3/0 or 4/0).
Take care to polish in the same direction the belt will go. Never polish with a circular motion.

JUST FOR FUN:

A buckle (from Latin buccula) is a clasp used for gastening two things together, such as the ends of a belt, or for retaining the end of a strap. Before the invention of the zipper, buckles were commonly used to fasten boots and other shoes.

HISTORY OF THE BUCKLE:

Buckles were used in ancient Greece and Rome, particularly in military equipment. Buckles were first used commonly in the cheek strap of the Roman Galea, hence the word origin from the Latin bucca–cheek. Because of the simplicity and durability of the buckle, it became popular in harnesses and embroidery, especially in shoes and boots. It was commonly used as a typical clasp for clothing until the zipper was invented.

CONTEMPORARY USES: Today, the buckle is most commonly used for belts, although it is still used in shoes and particularly boots. Buckles can also be seen on backpacks, watches and other wrist jewelery, or for ornamental purposes on other various objects. Buckles are also commonly seen in modern gothic fashion.
A buckle can refer to a seat belt or safety belt, as in the term, "buckle up".
